Buenos Aires is a food lovers paradise and worth visiting just to experience the incredible cuisine alone. From juicy melt-in-your-mouth steaks to fully stuffed empanadas and towering Milanesa. In this post we will show you some of our favourite Argentine dishes and where to eat them in Buenos Aires.
Milanesa
Milanesa is a breaded cutlet, usually made from beef, veal, or chicken and one of the best places to eat milanesa is at Los Orientales in the Almagro neighbourhood. This restaurant is a no frills place that is full of locals so you know it is going to be good. The Milanesa here comes fully loaded with toppings and sitting on a bed of fries and with servings so large you will struggle to finish.
Argentine Steak
Argentine BBQ or parilla is famous worldwide, so we were super excited to visit Parrilla Cero5 a steakhouse located in Palermo Hollywood. The steak definitely lived up to the hype! it was tender, juicy and just lightly seasoned with salt. With steak this good you don’t need any sauce or condiments as it’s just absolute perfection!
Empanada’s
Empanadas are a classic Argentine dish that you will see yourself eat over and over again when in the country. El Gauchito makes some of the best empanadas in Buenos Aires and you will find them selling these little pockets of joy from a charming little hole in the wall restaurant on Av. Independencia in the San Telmo neighbourhood.
Pizza
Güerrín is a historic pizzeria in Buenos Aires famous for its traditional Argentine style pizza. It was founded in 1932 by two Italian immigrants, and has been a Buenos Aires institution ever since. Güerrín is known for its thick, doughy pizza crust cooked in a wood-fired oven. The servings are very big so make sure you bring along your appetite or some friends o share.
Media Luna & Cafe con leche
Buenos Aires has a strong coffee culture with a mix of historic cafes and more modern establishments. Their is no better way to start your day than a relaxing coffee paired with the media luna a crescent shaped pastry, and one of the best places to experience this is Petit Colón a historic café with a sophisticated vibe located in the theatre district of Buenos Aires.
Ice Cream
Ice cream isn’t unique to Argentina but if your looking for something to satisfy your sweet tooth then we recommend Helados Dumbo an artisanal ice cream shop that has been perfecting their recipes since 1942.
Choripan
Choripan is one of our favourite Argentine dishes, it’s simple yet incredibly delicious. Choripan is BBQ Chorizo served in a fresh crusty bread roll drizzled with Chimichurri. You will find this dish all over the place and we tried it at Cafe de los Artistas while exploring La Boca.
